WHY DON’T YOU JUST DO IT?
So, you know that making 5-10 calls today will potentially change your life. You know that waking up 30 minutes earlier to get to the gym will change how you feel. You know that dedicating 20 minutes to focusing on setting your mental & emotional state everyday will help you have better, more productive interactions today. You know that eating a salad for lunch will help you feel so much better and help you have the energy to do more. So, why don’t you just do it? Well, overcoming procrastination boils down to one thing. . .
When you decide to do anything, do you actually sit down and decide to do it or do you most often find yourself doing the things you want to do or avoiding the things you don’t want to do naturally? I find that discipline is a horrid concept that makes me want to run the other direction. I do enjoy doing the activities which lead to the outcomes I really want and therefore I eat healthy, I workout, and I focus on the best ways to generate a 6 figure income. Focusing on what I want, and what it takes to get those outcomes, takes care of whatever it is that typically causes procrastination.
As you sit there now, reading from left to right, you probably know several outcomes that you truly would like to see transpire in your life. As you think about that now, what did you do in order to make sure that this reality becomes your reality?
How would it change your life if you woke up tomorrow doing the things you know you need to do, and how would that make you feel?
Creating Passion boils down to your reasoning and beliefs. What has changed recently that makes you want to stop procrastinating and begin to take action in a certain area? If you actually do take action everyday or consistently, how would your life change? If you can answer that question, you will activate mirror neurons and create the passion needed to activate the limbic system and cause permanent change.
Considering the above point is a scientific technique. Once you begin to play the scenario out in your mind, you must connect with the outcome. The outcome is all that will ultimately matter to your brain when you are trying to overcome procrastination. Just like when you see someone sucking on a lemon and your lips purse and you begin to salivate, the brain releases all the chemicals you need in order to connect with the outcome you really want, IF you really want it.
If you don’t really want the outcome for whatever reason, you will sabotage, procrastinate, and avoid whatever painful activities it takes to achieve that outcome, also if you don’t actually activate mirror neurons by vividly creating and connecting to a specific outcome your brain will default to the easiest way of surviving.
By focusing your mind on the exact outcome you want and what it will take to get there, you will bypass the existing story you have told yourself in order to get you to behave the way you have been behaving which most of us would call laziness or procrastination. This is the fastest, most effective way to adopt a new behavior and bypass the unconscious programming which led us to procrastinate. I highly recommend using the P.U.R.E. model in order to help you create that outcome you desire and connect with it vividly.
