MOTION CREATES EMOTION: SHIFTING YOUR STATE
POSTURE PREDICTS PATTERNS
When you imagine what someone looks like who believes they are sad, depressed, or anxious, what are some of the notes you could make about their posture? Are there shoulders back, or forward? Is there chin lifted, or down? Are they breathing shallow or deep? Chances are you are seeing a picture or movie in your mind of yourself or someone else you have seen who appears sad, depressed, or anxious. What if the posture they are in is predicting the pattern of thoughts that go along with that posture? What if the Motions they are going through are creating or confirming their Emotions?
Consider someone who is proud of an achievement, grateful for someone or something, or really genuinely happy, and think about what you notice about this person’s posture. As you imagine a picture or snapshot of that person, I’d like you to begin to adopt that posture.
MIND + MUSCLE CONNECTION
Once you begin to consider what it would look like to be truly happy, proud, or grateful, it is typically going to shift your state of mind into a more positive and useful state. Take 2 minutes to adopt this posture, but if you need step by step instructions, follow along and remember Motion Creates Emotion:
- Stand tall and place your hands on your hips
- Breathe deeply into your belly slowly and calmly
- Roll Your Shoulders Back & lift your chin just slightly
- Now, visualize a version of yourself that is Courageous, Intentional, & a Winner
After 2 minutes, studies show that your testosterone levels will increase, your heart rate will level off, & you will begin to process information more clearly and more efficiently.
PROBLEM SOLVING STATE
Once you have generated this emotional state, it is a great time to consider what outcomes and results you are really wanting to achieve. If you focus your intentional thoughts on what it will look like when you have the outcomes you want, you can use a few powerful questions to help you create a well-formed, P.U.R.E. outcome:
P.ositively Stated (What you do want, not what you don’t want)
U.nder Your Control (You can’t create outcomes which control the behavior of others)
R.eal (What will it look like, sound like, & feel like)
E.cology (Is there any reason why it would not be ok to get it?)
Now, use the following questions to create a PURE Outcome or Goal for your life:
- What types of images come to mind?
- How will it look when you finally have the perfect solution?
- What resources do you currently have access to that will cause this outcome to go easier and faster?
- When you have that outcome, how will it have changed your life?
