AMBIGUITY

You are an outgoing person, who many people see as the life of the party, but there is a very real part of you that feels alone and sure that no one will ever know the “real” you. That was a Barnum Statement and books like “The Secret” or the Deepak Chopra’s of the world need you to eat them up.

It is your job to read in between the lines and make this factual sounding statement fit your particular circumstance in order for you to experience the powerful results of their “methods.” This is how “Positive Thinking” works. Just stay positive.

Super easy right? WRONG. 

Ambiguity is a tool used by self help gurus, con-artists, and charlatans utilize to trick you into accepting something that just is not true. Don’t fall for anything which does not provide action steps, a mechanism, and the SPECIFIC results you can expect.

Specifically.

AFFIRMATIONS, PRAYER, & MAGIC

“Positive Thinking” or the command to

Be Positive

is the rational-sounding command that means to

Speak Life”

or

“Send out Positive Energy

and my personal favorite

Pray about it.

Concerning your situation, the formula seems to be, try harder to convince yourself that it is not all bad, but we know this is silly. Spend a day speaking to a cup of water or praying over it and I assure you that the molecular composition will not alter in the slightest no matter what story or anecdote you have heard.

This experiment will prove out time after time. I know it is a bit disappointing, but cheer up, first of all, you already knew that believing that speaking at something would alter it is nonsense, but FEAR NOT!

There is a solid, scientific solution that can cause positive changes in the thinking of others, and in their lives, but it will take intentional cognitive thought with purpose driven outcomes as the objective, not mindless incantations.

MIRROR NEURONS

When we imagine the situations in our life that cause us grief or some form of pain, we activate mirror neurons. What does that mean? Well, when mirror neurons were discovered, it was found that primates have brains designed to activate the neurological processes that are required and caused by a behavior in order to appropriately

  • feel,
  • see,
  • hear, and
  • experience

the imagery that is playing out in the mind by activating our limbic-system. Why do we do this? This function is one of the primary ways we learn or commit important memories to our Long Term Memory;

in other words, if you think about eating or licking a lemon now, you may experience increased salivation, and your lips might have puckered a bit due to the thought of the sour juice hitting your pallet. This is a demonstration of the power of mirror neurons.

Being intentional with the activation of mirror neurons is the key to getting you out of your depression and anxiety and it is very similar to the concepts of

  • Affirmations,
  • Prayer, or
  • Magic,

but the main difference is that THIS scientific process has been proven and it actually works.

When you begin NOW to think about what it is that you do want your life to look like,

it is critical that at this stage, that you create in your own mind, very real, very vivid imagery of the YOU that is capable of dominating the situation that is bringing you anxiety or self doubt. What is the difference here?

Simple. We are activating mirror neurons to change your mental state and cause you to change posture, demeanor, and thinking patterns.

It is not important to have actually ever succeeded in reality, if you can create clear, high definition versions of yourself being a success, it will activate your mirror neurons and change the way you interact with your problems.

This is what causes real, FAST, positive changes in the lives of my clients. When we face our day, we have already preframed the Heroic versions of ourselves who are capable of defeating any circumstance and which sets us up for more victories.

CONCLUSION

Ambiguous instructions to Be Positive don’t work and have no evidence to support them as effective other than anecdotal. Cognitive and intentional Preframing provides a tool that many people have used as a scientific approach to implementing a self help strategy created by great thinkers and philosophers throughout the history of Psychology.
